First Fresh Tracks, First MorningNoon&Night of Season

The Plum Telluride season has started, and fittingly so, with the ski season. Telluride Ski Resort opened its door this week and Plum was there. Fresh Tracks ends November on Friday bright and early at 7:30 am. And beginning the month of December is the famous MorningNoon&Night show with two days of all the local personality Telluride loves, hosted by Jeb Berrier and Ramona Bruland.

Fresh Tracks runs daily this winter with ski reports, weather reports and ski area run reports. Check out the daily snow report on our website homepage. MNN takes on Saturdays and Sundays with in-depth interviews, local stories, events and all of the culture of Telluride. Don't miss our ski season kick off this weekend.

Palmyra Peak Open to Ski

Hiking Prospect

Soon the Telluride Ski Resort bullwheels start turning and so too, our skis. Telski expanded its terrain again with the inclusion of hike-to terrain off the summit of Palmyra Peak.

Cyber-Shop in Telluride

Cyber Shopping

Ah, virtual shopping. Better than the elbow-to-elbow crowds in stores between Black Friday and the Holidays, and more dignified than the fistfights over that last Wii or PlayStation 3 on the shelves. Here are a few local web sites to help you max out your credit cards, Telluride-style.

Telluride Ski Area Opens

Opening Day with CEO Dave Riley

Wait no longer, the Telluride Ski Resort bullwheels are turning officially beginning the 2007-08 ski season. The surprise came as many of Telluride's early season lift openings to come—a welcomed surprise.

Telluride Ski Area Opens Nov. 30

Groomers Ahead

Both makeshift Mother Nature and the real Mother Nature have boosted snow amounts allowing Telluride Ski Resort to open its doors for business on Nov. 30. Now not only do groomers lie ahead, but the 2007-08 ski season lies ahead.

Giving Thanks This Turkey Day

Gobble, Gobble
Usually on Thanksgiving Day we are carving our first turns of the season before we start carving the turkey — not this year. The delay of opening day at the ski resort has left everyone in a funk, but instead of throwing a Turkey Day pity party we thought we would remind ourselves of everything for which we are thankful.

Colorado Kite Force in Frisco is a hotspot for the growing sport of snow kiting. Colorado's bluebird skies and gentle to moderate winds make for perfect conditions, and people are picking it up. Anton Rainold, owner of one of the only snow kite-specific shops in the country, tells us how it's done.

Plum Telluride Primed for Ski Season

First Fresh Tracks

While snowguns act as a makeshift Mother Nature and chairlifts sit still, Plum Telluride is gearing up for the winter ski season—weather or not.

Beginning Dec. 1, MorningNoon&Night is back live for ski season with all of the local personalities, the quaintest of Telluride stories, and the catchiest of insider information you'll need. Check out all local coverage coming at you from the base of Lift 4 with our hosts Ramona Bruland and Jeb Berrier.

Plum Telluride gives you ski reports, current events, top personalities, weather forecasts, and more. Tune in for the latest of Telluride's goings on. Following Fresh Tracks' initial special Thanksgiving show, we will be airing live Fresh Tracks each day once the lifts get rolling. Stay tuned...

Opening Day Delay

Snow Angel

It looks more like May than November outside. Ski country in Colorado and Utah has been plagued by warm temperatures this fall, and snowmaking efforts have been stymied, forcing Telluride and other resorts in the Western U.S. to delay their opening.

Resorts that are opening on time have just limited terrain available, and mostly manmade snow. Wolf Creek and Winter Park have less than one percent of their terrain open. Utah's Snowbird and Park City, and Colorado's Vail, Steamboat and Crested Butte are pushing back their opening days until colder temperatures will allow for at least enough manmade snow to cover the runs.

The next substantial storm isn't expected until the week after the holidays, but the weather forecast over Thanksgiving shows temperatures starting to drop.

Telluride Ski Area Expands

ski area, skis, telluride, prospect bowl

We may have to wait a little longer for the Telluride Ski Area to fire up the lifts, but this winter 2007-08 there is more terrain to make the wait worthwhile. Telski has expanded its skiable terrain into Black Iron Bowl.

Gondola Reopens for Winter

Lovely Gondola

The Telluride Mountain Village gondola is back in motion for the 2007-08 winter season. Gondola use was suspended for a routine, biannual gondola maintenance off season but is back on track moving back and forth between Telluride and Mountain Village.

It's North America's only free gondola system linking two towns by a scenic 15 minute gondola ride. All three links of the gondola—Mountain Village Town Hall and free parking structure to Mountain Village Core, the core to Station San Sophia, and San Sophia to Telluride—run from 7 am to midnight every day.

If you're looking for a ride around the Mountain Village contact Dial-A-Ride, free transportation for guests and residents. A courtesy phone is located at the main gondola terminal in Mountain Village, or ask a Guest Service host to radio a shuttle for a ride.

Wolcott's Ski Bench Classic

Venturing out of the Vail valley last spring, Plum visited Wolcott and got caught in the ski bench racing classic. The 13th annual Ski Bench Classic spearheaded by bench-maker Bill Mounsey took the rugged course, tipping some and bringing some to pure victory. Telluride, too, has its own version of these bench beauties.

Off Season is Pre Season

Ah...off season is here and while in theory the town slows down, Plum Telluride has been busy like bees. MorningNoon&Night, Fresh Tracks and Apres Ski are coming your way beginning Nov. 22 when the ski area bullwheels start turning, and we're going live 7 days a week. But until then, while you tune up your ski gear and get ready for winter, check out our Halloween coverage and stay abreast of all the local news you need.

Snowmaking in Telluride

Life as we know it grinds to a halt every off-season. Half the people in town leave to go biking in Moab or surfing in Mexico, the streets get quiet, and on weekends it feels like a ghost town. But there's lots of activity on the mountain as crews prepare the resort for the winter season.
