Beaux Arts Ball "Red Hot & Rio"

Hazel Miller to Play the Beaux Arts Ball
It may be the coldest time of winter, but inside the Sheridan Opera House it’s red, hot and Rio, so dress up—or dress down—accordingly. The Telluride Council for the Arts & Humanities is back Saturday night with its biggest fundraiser of the year, the Beaux Arts Ball with this year’s theme “Red Hot & Rio.”

Returning to the Beaux Arts Ball stage is the “Queen of Blues” Hazel Miller. She is a favorite at the Telluride Blues & Brews Festival and a frequent performer on many Telluride stages—this is Miller’s first time on the Opera House stage. In 2002, the Independent Music Awards named Miller the Best R&B/Blues Artist of the year, and her hometown of Denver calls her the “Queen of Blues.” Last year at Beaux Arts, The Hazel Miller Band had the crowd moving to Motown and swing sounds, and this year is sure to be another grooving party, so bring your dancing shoes.

Telluride’s own Sasha is the 2008 Mistress of Ceremonies and inspires all to dress sexy, whether it be in drag, dressing up or dressing down. TCAH will provide the baubles, bead and masks for a finishing touch.

Lucas Price of La Cocina de Luz is cheffing up traditional Brazilian appetizers including empahinahs with chicken and hearts of palm, pao do queijo, and more.

Matching the dancing and dining glamour of the evening, is the art part. This TCAH fundraiser supports Telluride arts and artists and wouldn’t be complete without a silent auction and local works of art. Bid on an acrylic by Sarah Gordon, a limo ride/dinner with Telluride Limo and the Bluepoint Grille, French lessons, or a slew of festival passes, wine tastings, lift tickets and spa passes.

This year’s ball will largely benefit TCAH’s popular local co-op, the Stronghouse Studios Artists’ Cooperative.

Tickets are available at the door, Wizard Entertainment or Telluride Ticket.
