Take Off for Off Season

kayak two

Everyone in Telluride seems to be heading from the hills these days, packing swimsuits, bikes, boats, climbing and camping gear for a much needed warm vacation. And it's no wonder - the mountain is closed and the Snocats are digging around, making it difficult for hikers to access any remaining and new dumps of snow.

So if you're fretting about what to do in the off season, here are Plum's picks that are perfectly ripe for the pickin'.

Mountain Biking in Moab

Ramona Biking

With the ski season over in a little more than a week, and the mountain closing down, some Telluride residents and visitors may be wondering what to do in their spare time. Plum may have an answer for you.

PlumTV host Ramona Bruland headed out to Moab, Utah, home of the gorgeous arches and even better views. It may not be Telluride, but there's plenty to do in Moab: you can go white-water rafting, hiking, catch a ride on a 4x4, or even, like Ramona, grab a mountain bike and try your luck on the trails.

Ramona Bruland trades in her skis and snowboard for wheels and hits the Slickrock Trail in Moab, Utah for some extreme mountain biking.

2008 Subaru Freeskiing Open

Waiting for a Run Down the Mountain

Two days of big skiing and bigger air, two days of jumping off cliffs and pulling 360s off of huge cornices. Nearly 50 competitors took on the 3rd Annual Subaru Telluride Freeskiing Open on Feb. 8 and 9. Six came out on top.

Griffin Post took the men's super final with 107 points, 5.5 points more than Josh Daiek and 6.62 points more than third place John Nicoletta. All three men put in "stunning performances" for the final.

In the women's super final, Hannah Whitney dropped cliffs and laid down spectacular turns to beat Crystal Wright by less than a point.

Another award given was the North Face Young Gun Award, honoring freeskiers under 21, to Scott McBrayer. The Tobias Lee Sickbird Award, given to the skier with the most spirited, most extraordinary run, went to the late Tobias's older brother Elijah Lee, a poignant moment for this year's Freeskiing Open.

The tour will now move to Squaw Valley, CA for the next leg.

Backstage at the Winter X-Games

ESPN Tower's View From the Top

Fifty weeks out of the year, the Beautiful Inn is just a gorgeous hotel in Aspen, Colorado. But for two weeks in January, it's nothing short of a video madhouse as ESPN descends on Aspen to run and produce the Winter X-Games. Plum's Ramona Bruland and Aaron Neu went backstage this year in order to bring you the inside scoop on just what goes into making the Winter X-Games.
