Telluride: What's Going On

Film Festival Freebies

Can you smell the popcorn yet? The 35th Telluride Film Festival begins Friday and continues through Sunday, bringing hot celebrities and the newest and hippest movies. Passes are sold out, but we’ll tell you how to make the best of the festival’s freebies, and the best places for celebrity spotting.

• The noon Seminars in Elks Park on Saturday and Sunday are free
• The 'Conversations' in the County Courthouse are free
• The four film premieres — one each night — in the Open Air Cinema in Elks Park are free and begin at 8:30 p.m.
• The three ‘Filmmakers of Tomorrow’ programs are free
• Films at the Back Lot, located in the Wilkinson Public Library
• The LATE SHOW PASS, the last film at two different theaters each day, four films for $40. This is quite a bargain, bearing in mind that individual film tickets cost $20 each.
• Keep an eye out for the TBAs, because you'll have a good chance at getting a ticket for a show that was just announced.
• Even if you don't have a pass, many of the shows sell individual tickets for $20.
• Plus, if theaters have empty seats after all the passholders have entered, they will begin to sell individual tickets 10 minutes before showtime.
• So you don't have a pass for the after parties but you still want to enjoy the festivities and perhaps spot a celeb? Check out the local bars in town, such as the Last Dollar Saloon (known as "The Buck,) the New Sheridan Bar, Marz and the Bubble Lounge.
