Alex Gibney and the Story of Hunter S. Thompson

Alex Gibney

Alex Gibney, Academy Award-winning director of "Taxi to the Dark Side," discusses his latest film, "Gonzo: The Life and Work of Hunter S. Thompson."

Alex Gibney sat down with Plum host Jeb Berrier while at Sundance Film Festival to share what he learned while making the documentary, "Gonzo: The Life and Work of Dr. Hunter S. Thompson."

The documentary seeks out the behind-the-scenes story of the infamous, radical and often wild journalist and author who cultivated "Gonzo"-style journalism and wrote "Fear and Loathing in Las Vegas." Gibney gained input for the film from Thompson's first wife, Sandi Wright, author Tom Wolfe, actor Johnny Depp and politicians Jimmy Carter and Pat Buchanan.

The documentary premiered at the 2008 Sundance Film Festival, and will show at Mountainfilm in Telluride along with the Academy Award-winning director's recent film, "Taxi to the Dark Side," which focuses on the psychology of torture.
