Telluride has a new mayor. Stu Fraser, a current member of the Town Council, edged out Terry Tice by just 15 votes on Nov. 6 to earn the post.
Fraser's victory also means that there was an extra seat on the town council to fill, so all three candidates running were elected: Thom Carnevale, David Oyster and Lulu Hunt will fill the council vacancies. Jerry Greene was the only candidate for the post of Town Moderator.
The town voted overwhelmingly against a $5 MM bond measure that would have replaced the aging water infrastructure on Colorado Avenue. The measure also contemplated widening and heating the sidewalks while replacing the water lines, an added cost some voters thought frivolous. Business owners also complained about the effect the street closures would have on their sales.
In Mountain Village, a 3 percent construction use tax passed easily, and in the Town of Norwood, voters supported a measure to raise taxes to channel funds to the school district.
