Esperanza Spalding plays bass like a rock star, sings smoothly and scats with funk.

At only 23 years old, she was a hit at last year's Telluride Jazz Celebration and teaches at Berklee College of Music. Most recently, she showed off her skills at the Michael D. Palm Theatre this past winter, where Plum caught her in action.
