Telluride

Kudos for Plein Air Artists

Easels were dotted all over the Telluride valley, plein air artists working diligently behind them, and then artists and their works are dotted all over Elks Park. Telluride Plein Air has come to a close and the fruits of plein air artists' labor hang for gazing, admiring and purchasing.

A Quick Draw contest last weekend had artists speeding up creation with a 90-minute painting session on main street. Plein air artists chose a view and a brush and went for plein air performance. Randall Sexton of Vallejo, Calif. grabbed the prize for his portrayal of one of town's mini side street parks with bikes and the La Tapatia taco stand.

Grabbing the overall Plein Air choice award was Scott Lloyd Anderson and his painting of the entrance to Telluride town and the popular Tibetan prayer flags flying.

Artists' works run the gamut from natural landscapes to town landscapes, alleyways to historic landmarks, water flows to wildflowers. Check out Telluride Plein Air for the 2007 celebration.
