
Plum host Jeb Berrier and crew are at the 24th annual Sundance Film Festival, and the fringe festivals surrounding it including the 14th annual Slamdance, the eighth annual X-Dance and the ninth annual Tromadance. Check in with Plum Telluride as we follow the festival that's slated to unspool 200 films over ten days in Park City and Salt Lake City.
This year 3,624 feature films were submitted to Sundance and of those only 121 films made the cut. At Sundance's sister film fest Slamdance, 1,200 feature films were submitted and a talented 29 films were selected. In its 24th year, Sundance is welcoming 55 first-time filmmakers.
The Park Record quoted Sundance festival founder, renowned actor and director Robert Redford: "In years past, filmmakers have been connected to the generation of baby boomers, trying to hang on to something of value," Redford explained. "Now there's a new group that's saying, 'We don't want to mirror what's come before. We want to do something new, so just get out of our way."
