Save Mountain Village: Go Shopping

If you've walked through Mountain Village lately, you may have seen "For Rent" signs in the windows of at least a few businesses, or heard word of some shops and restaurants shutting down not only for the season – but possibly for good. Well now the Daily Planet reports that it's official.

Rents are high, and hotels that would bring lots of visitors, such as the Peaks, Capella and Lumiere, aren't up and running yet. Plus, the village will not be hosting the Full Tilt mountain bike race this summer, which would have brought in hundreds of mountain bikers.

Although Mountain Village may just be transitioning, it's still a good idea to patronize the local businesses to show support. One of the wonderful things about Telluride is the proliferation of local businesses, and not one major chain. Let's keep it that way.

Who's shutting down?

  • Skier's Union Cafe is relocating to Ridgway and Montrose
  • Winston Gallery of art is moving to North Carolina
  • Telluride Mountain Gallery will head downtown
  • SlopeStyle will close for the summer
  • Paragon will also remain closed for the summer
