Palmyra Peak Open to Ski

Hiking Prospect

Soon the Telluride Ski Resort bullwheels start turning and so too, our skis. Telski expanded its terrain again with the inclusion of hike-to terrain off the summit of Palmyra Peak.

Recently, Telski announced the opening of Black Iron Bowl, adding an additional eight runs and 1,000 acres of hike-to terrain, and this week they’ve gone even higher. Palmyra Peak access expands the ski area by more than 200 acres and boasts 2,000 additional vertical feet. Palmyra’s skiable terrain is located on the north face of the 13,320-foot peak.

But you’ll have to earn your turns and huff it to the top of this expert terrain. Runs off the top include Tram Shot, Sunrise and Electric Shock, and drain into Upper Morraine and Lower Palmyra Ridge.

Why now? Telski has a new avalauncher and ski patrol resources to better control terrain to the top of Gold Hill 5 making skiing off the peak and through Prospect Bowl safe when conditions and control work allow.

Snow guns are set in the Lift 4 area (the first ski area acreage to open each year due to the unnatural snowfall) and awaiting just the right temperatures, about 26-28 degrees, at night to begin blowing snow.

Now all we need is a little help from our friend: Mother Nature.
